Puteri Gunung Ledang... Is it good?
I missed the first run of Puteri Gunung Ledang - The Musical. I went to the boxoffice at Istana Budaya and found a long line ahead of me. Disappointed I was when I found out that the rest of the shows were soldout.Fast forward to the last three weeks when I wanted to watch the show so badly but I was low in cash due to our kitchen renovation. I was trying to find a way to watch the show but to no avail. On the 14th, I decided to buy the tickets via credit card first. What to do!! I had wanted to buy two tickets, for my wife and I but the only day available was on that Sunday, 20th and a matinee show. To add another obstacle, there was only one seat of RM150(Which I could only afford) left. I decided to buy it anyways and let my wife decides who to go. Of course, selfishly, I want to go.
My wife was disappointed but she let me go and watch it. Thank you. Thank you. Now, I have set up the
situation that I was very eager and excited to watch PGL, the question is did the show live up to the expectation?I have to say that the show deserves whatever boxoffice receipts that it has been getting. Yes. And Yes, the show was really good. The only part I was disappointed was the ending could have a more memorable song to end the show with a great bitter note but I am nitpicking. Stephen Rahman-Hughes and Tiara Jacqueline had that right chemistry together to make it work.
During the end curtain call, I welled up a little as I stood to give the actors a standing ovation and in my mind, why did I have tears in my eyes? It was only when I got into my car that I knew why.
I have seen Phantom of The Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, Crazy For You and a few other musicals...... and I am proud to say that Puteri Gunung Ledang - The Musical is comparable to the ones that I have mentioned..... and it is from Malaysia. Makes me proud to be a Malaysian.
